UES has upgraded the automation on numerous systems over the last three years to a state-of-the-art Rockwell/Allen Bradley Distributed Control System (DCS). Boilers 5, 6 and 7 at the West plant were all converted to Allen Bradley. The controls for our 3 Solar Gas Turbines will also be upgraded in 2019. All of the field panels are networked back to the server and are viewable in the control room so that operators can respond to failures quickly and efficiently as well as monitor for necessary system changes. The network also includes the East plant, where all 3 HTHW boilers have been upgraded, as well as the 2 Cooper engines. The network, controllers, switches and trunk all have several layers of redundancy to insure that operators are always able to monitor plant activities so that control is maintained in all situations.
